State Finals

Two school records and a near third one later, the 2017 season comes to end on a very positive note! Kalley Harris was able to take down another school record, this time putting her name on the 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.76, finishing in the 6th place, and taking down a record that had stood since 1996. She then came back and hour and a half later and took off more time on her own record in the 300 IM Hurdles and finishing in a close 2nd place! Brielle Clarke was able to finish in 7th place in the 100m Dash in an all time PR for herself and missed tying the school record by .02, a record that has stood since 1985.  Both Girls were able to earn All-State Honors, the 4th and 5th in Kalley's high school career and the first for Brielle! Also, with their efforts, they helped the team to finish 22nd as a team out of 67 scoring schools! Great work Ladies and congratulations on finishing the season with your bests!

State Prelims

There are three races left on the season, as Kalley and Brielle were able to make it to the State Finals tomorrow, Saturday, morning. Kalley leaned just enough at the line to grab the 9th spot in the 100 Hurdles, getting in by .01, then came back strong in the 300 Hurdles with the second fastest time of the day. Brielle, meanwhile, moved up to second in her heat and finished with the number 5 spot in the 100m dash. Race times tomorrow are at 9:50 for the 100 Hurdles, 10:10 for the 100m dash, and 11:30 for the 300 Hurldes. Live results can once again be found on Wayzata Results.
Any questions, let me know,
Thanks,

State

Prelims for Kalley and Brielle at the State Meet are tomorrow, Friday, morning at Hamline University. Kalley will run her first race, the 100 Hurdles, at 9:30, then the 300 IM Hurdles at 11:30, while Brielle will be running at 9:50. You will be able to get up to the minute results on Wayzata Results.  If they are one of the nine fastest in the Prelims, they will advance to the Finals, which will be on Saturday morning.
If you are planning to go down to watch, know that parking is even more limited and that there is a fee to enter, $10 for adults, $7 for students, and there will be many more spectators, so give yourself a lot of time, both for parking and then entering the stadium area.
If there are any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Denny

Section Results

Congratulations to Kalley Harris and Brielle Clarke as they both qualified for next weeks State Meet! Kalley has qualified for the 4th year in a row as she got 2nd place in the 100 Hurdles and winning the 300IM Hurdles, breaking her own school record in the process! Brielle ran an all time best to grab 2nd in the 100m Dash, qualifying for her first State Meet! Races will be on Friday with Prelims, followed by Finals on Saturday the 11th.

Congrats to all of the girls that competed today, in probably the hottest temps we have had to deal with this year. Three of the four relay teams set Seasonal Bests, and the Pole Vault proved to be our deepest event this season with all 3 girls finishing in the top 7 overall. Kalaina Verdick finished 7th, Mog O'Grady was 4th, and Camika Hurdle coming in 3rd, missing State by one place. I very positive way to end the team portion of our season.

Overall meet results can be found by clicking on Wayzat Results at the top of the blog page and going into the Results section looking for Section 5AA.  I will get our individual results up later this weekend.

For those that have not turned in their uniforms or have just completed their seasons, please bring your uniforms to me on Monday. I'll wait by the equipment room after school.

Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Monday Practice/Friday Schedule Change

Just a reminder for the sprinters and distance runners that are competing this week, practice today, Monday, is going to be at 6:00pm at the track. Make sure you bring your spikes.

Second, found out that the start time for Friday's section finals had been moved up to 11:30am. Not sure why there was a move, but this is different than what was on our schedule, what we have done the past few years, and I was not aware of this change until they sent us all of the information last week.

One last thing, uniform turn in will be this coming Thursday after school for all athletes that are done for the season. Make sure your uniform is clean. For those that will still be competing, I will collect your uniform after you are done.  We will also do our team voting and a season survey after as well.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Conference Results

Congratulations to all of the Girls that competed this week at the Northwest Suburban Conference Meet, as the Girls put together their best overall meet on the season and finished in a solid 5th out of 14 teams, only 20 points out of 1st, and hanging in for the conference title until the last event, and despite having our best race in the 4x400 on the year, it wasn't enough to gain.

Huge Congrats to Brielle Clarke, Kalley Harris, and Kalaina Verdick as they all were able to take Conference titles as well as earn All-Conference Honors.  All three had solid all-around weeks with Kalaina winning the Pole Vault, taking 4th in the 200m dash, 5th in the Long Jump and 9th in the Triple Jump, as Kalley Harris won the 300IM Hurdles and 3rd in the 100H Hurdles.  Brielle was a double winner, first winning the 100m dash and following it up with a win in the 200m dash, as well as finishing 3rd in the High Jump, and was named the Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet.

All of our individual results are now posted on the right side of the blog and you are able to find the meet results above by clicking on Raceberryjam.com, and then looking in the Outdoor Track section and Results.

Next up will be the Section 5AA Meet next Wednesday and Friday at Hamline University.  The Girls will find out what they will be competing in tomorrow.

Also, the Distance and Sprinters will be practicing on Monday, Memorial Day, at 6:00pm to allow for everyone to enjoy the day.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Conference Prelim Results

Here is a link to the Results for yesterday's Prelims of the NWSC Conference Meet.  Some very big positives for many of the Girls and we were able to get some points that we were not "supposed" to get based off of seedings.  We also were able to get the Girls that were expected to be in the finals moving forward, thus giving us a chance to get some good points tomorrow at the Finals.  Are we expected or feeling we will get enough points to win, probably not, but we will do what we can, if the Girls continue to move forward like they did yesterday, anything is possible. So, we stay positive and see what we can do.
Below is the schedule for tomorrow, with the remaining Field Events starting at 2:30.  Also please remember that there is a fee to enter, $7 for adults, $5 for students.
Any questions, let me know,
Thanks

Cambridge JV

So here is the basics for the JV Meet that we added for tomorrow, Monday, at Cambridge.  The meet will begin at 4:00, with our bus leaving at 2:30, thus the athletes will get out at 2:10.

What we are thinking with this meet, is that it is an open meet for our JV athletes, meaning, those that want to get another race in, or another attempt at a field event, will get that chance.  If there are those that are a bit worn out, or have lots of school work or other events (band/choir concerts), then they are allowed to shut down.  It is something that happens, and for those that are new to Varsity sports sometimes get a bit worn down, so we are not going to stress over it.

Here are the basic directions:
Go East on Main Street to Hwy 65 and go North to Cambridge.  Once to Cambridge, exit onto 1st Ave and take a left.  Go through town and take a right onto Cypress St. N, and take a right.  School and track will be at the end of Cypress St.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

If there are any changes to the date, time, or location, I will let you know as soon as possible.
Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

JV Conference

everything is good to go for today's JV Conference Meet at Elk River. First race will be at 3:45 and the meet should move pretty quickly. Weather should not be an issue, just 20 some degrees cooler than Tuesday's meet!

One other item that came up yesterday is that we were asked to go to a JV Meet on Monday in Cambridge. I do not currently have all of the details right now, but we did accept the invite, thus our JV athletes will get one more meet in this season. Once more is known, I will send out that info on the blog and email.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Armstrong Tri Results

Our individual results are now posted.  There were no overall meet results, but based on what we saw, we had would have placed well in many events.  There were a few events that we struggled, much of that to do with the heat and really the first time this year that we had some very uncomfortable weather.  But, we did have some very solid performances as well, showing us that we are moving in the right direction for the end of the season.

Next up is the JV Conference Meet on Thursday at Elk River.  This will be a meet that final decisions for the Conference Meet are made, as well as who we might look at for the Section Meet.  It's all one final chance for many of the girls to set season or personal records in their event(s).  It's always a good meet for the JV Girls to end their season, so we are hoping for more positives this year!

Any questions on anything, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Armstrong Tri. vs. Blaine

Everything is still a go for today's meet at Armstrong vs Blaine.  If there are any changes, due to the weather, I will let you know as soon as I can.  Meet time is 3:45.

But it is a regularly scheduled meet, with open number of athletes in each event, meaning we can run as many as we want.

Here are the directions:
Armstrong High School: 10635 36th Ave North, Plymouth, MN 55441. Go East on Hwy 10 to Hwy 610 West until you get to Hwy 169 South. Go South to 36th Ave North, and take a right.  School will be on the left about ½ mile from Hwy 169.

If you have any questions, let me know,
Thanks,

Denny

Monday Team Dinner

This is just a reminder that we will be having a team dinner after practice on Monday at 5:00pm. We are planning to have the dinner in the cafeteria, but may be moved to the mezzanine.

Thanks,
Denny

JV True Team Results/Team Dinner

Our individual results from last nights JV True Team Meet are now posted.  There were no team results involved with the meet.  Besides that fact, the girls that participated yesterday performed very well and there were many personal bests in many of the events.  It is a positive for the athletes and us as coaches and shows the athletes that the work that they have put in is showing a difference in their performances.  The JV girls will have two more meets left, next Tuesday and Thursday, with some of them still having an opportunity to compete on the Varsity team at Conference and/or Section Meets that will follow.  With this, we do encourage the girls that are on JV to continue to practice, one to show that they want to continue to get better, but also possibly fill a position if there is an injury or other unforeseen instance.

Next, the captains and I were able to put together a team dinner on Monday after practice, at 5:00, in the high school cafeteria.  We are having it catered by Noodles and Company, and the athletes will not have to pay.  This is an opportunity for all of the track and field athletes to get together, relax, and get ready for the last meet for the whole team, Tuesday's Armstrong Tri.  There is no set time that they have to stay to, and we know that there is a concert on Monday evening as well, so when someone needs to leave, they are fine to do so.  If you have any questions in regards to this, please let me know.

Thanks,
Denny

True Team Section Results

Results from tonight's True Team Section Meet are now posted on the right side of the blog.  Overall meet results will be posted soon.

But it was an up and down night for the Girls tonight.  We finished in 6th out of 9 teams, but we were less than 40 points out of 3rd place, and with us missing a few athletes and having to put a few athletes into some new positions, and for us to be in the position that we were, it gives us much to look forward to and work for, as we are building towards the end of the season.  We did have a few areas of struggle as well, which is where we might have lost some points that we usually get, but many others stepped and regained those points.  So, we did what we could knowing it would be tough to be in the top 2, and competed for a top 3 spot and came up a bit short.

Thanks for all of those that came out to watch and support.  Next up is a JV Meet on Thursday at Anoka.  It is mentioned as a True Team Meet, but it is an open meet for the JV athletes.

Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Section True Team Meet

The True Team Section meet at Elk River will be on Tueday.
There will be a spectator fee: $6.00 adults and $4.00 for students. Spectators
should enter between the tennis courts.

The meet will be starting at 3:45, with Boys Pole Vault starting at Noon.  With 9 teams, the meet will run longer, so getting home will probably be closer to 9:00, so long as there are no weather delays.
This meet is a little different than the others.  Every individual and relay will receive points, so long as they finish their race or get a qualifying height or distance.  With 9 teams and each team getting 3 individuals per event, first place will get 27 points, 27th place will get 1 point.  For relays first place will get 36 point (9 team x 4 individuals per team), 2nd place 32 on down to 4 points for 9th place. The team that has the most points at the end of the meet will qualify for the True Team State Meet. Individuals will not qualify for that State Meet.
The Girls will find out at practice on Monday if they will be competing or have practice.  There will be a couple of events that will be decided at practice itself due to injuries and open spots.  Any Girl that does not compete on Tuesday will be competing on Thursday at Anoka.
If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Coon Rapids JV Results

Results from today's JV Meet vs. Blaine are now posted on the right side of the blog.  Some big positives for our JV athletes, with many improvements, as the girls had the opportunity to compete in some of the best weather of the season so far.

There were no overall meet results, so it is hard to say where the team would have placed.  But, we were looking for improvements and positives as we get closer to the bigger meets and the end of the season, hoping that the girls are able to have their bests at that time.

Next up will be the True Team Section meet for the Varsity team on Tuesday at Elk River.  We will be allowed to have 3 athletes per event and one relay team. We as coaches will be deciding the team by Monday.  Those that do not compete will be competing on Thursday at Anoka.

Thanks and any questions, let me know,
Denny

Blaine Invite Results

Results from last nights Blaine Invite are now posted on the side of the blog and if you would like to look at the overall meet results, you can find them at the following link Blaine Invite or click above on Prime Time Timing, click into results and look for Blaine Invite.

But a much improved meet for the Girls.  We finished in 3rd out of 6 teams, fairly close on 2nd place, with the girls running some of the fastest times on the season in many of the running events.  We still are working to get to our top level and to give the girls the best opportunity to have their best performances as we move through the month and really hit it hard in the last races of the season!

Next up is the Coon Rapids JV vs. Blaine on Thursday, starting at 3:45 at CRHS.  There will not be any team scores for this meet, just more of an opportunity for both teams JV athletes.  The girls will be expected to stay for the whole meet, and if they are to leave, parents/athletes must check out with myself so we as a coaching staff know who is still around.  In the past couple of meets, we have had a few leave without any notification, and we have had to check with other athletes to see if we were missing someone or if they have gone home with a parent.

Thanks and if there are any questions, please let me know,
Denny

Blaine Invite

Here is the schedule for the Blaine Invite today.  This is a Varsity only meet, so the girls have been notified who is competing and who will not.  For those not competing today, practice is at normal time, and they are expected to be there.  Some of them still have an opportunity to be on Varsity this season, so we want to see who wants to get a spot on Varsity.
If there are any questions, please let me know,

Hamline Elite Meet

Tonight is the Hamline Elite Meet.  This is a meet that is not for everyone on our team.  We have to submit times, heights, and distances, as do others schools interested, and then the top so many are selected to compete.

This year we have two individuals competing, Brielle Clarke in the 100m Dash and Kalley Harris in the 100m Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles.  Brielle will have prelims at 5:35, and then if she qualifies for finals will run at 6:35. Kalley will run at 6:25 for the 100m Hurdles and 7:50 for the 300m Hurdles, where she will be one of the favorites to win.  If you are wanting to see how they are doing, but not wanting to drive down, you can see their live times at Wayzataresults.com

I am still working on putting up results from last nights 9/10 Meet at Centennial.  I am waiting on results from a few field events before I put them up.  I am also waiting to get the final overall meet results, so I am not sure where we finished as a team.

But, the weather was cold, one of the coldest that we have had, but the athletes worked hard and did the best that they could for the conditions.  It has been a rough couple of last weeks for meets and practices (minus last Saturday) for many of the girls, so we are hoping for the some better weather soon to get their spirits high and to see what they can do when they are not worried about the wind, the rain, the cold, or all three at once!

Last thing, we are taking the team picture today after school at the track and then we are still practicing.  Looks like the weather will be much nicer and the sun should be out for the picture.

Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Spring Lake Park JV Results

Results for our team for last nights JV meet at Spring Lake Park are now posted on the right side of the blog.  There were no overall meet results, but, despite the wet conditions, I thought that our girls held their own and in many cases improved on their previous season, or all time, personal bests in their events.

Next up is the Centennial 9/10 Meet, Thursday, April 27.  Most of the athletes that are 10th grade and younger will be in this meet, unless their coach is having them stay back to do a work out.  We are, however, limited to 8 entries in the individual events, and 3 relay's per relay event.  With this, we as coaches will be deciding who will be in which event, much like our Varsity meets.  We will be letting the girls know at practice today which event(s) they will be in.  The weather does look like it will be much better tomorrow!!

Finally, our team pictures are on Friday after school. Picture forms will be available for the athletes today at practice.

Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Spring Lake Park JV Meet

Here are the directions to today's JV Meet at Spring Lake Park.  Meet will be starting at 4:00, and will be a normal schedule meet. Plus there will be concessions available. There is a possibility of some light rain, but know that we will continue to compete unless there is lightening, in which case there is a 30 min delay from the last sighting of lightening.
Any questions, let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Maverick Invite Results

You can find the results from today's meet in Mankato can be found at the top of the blog under the link for Wayzata Results, or at this link Maverick Invite

As for how we did, there were some strong performances and many improvements. We were short on a few of our Varsity runners, but those that were asked to compete stepped up and are making the team stronger, as well as giving themselves experience that can help them when we get to some of the bigger meets. We had a lot of young athletes get points and help the team to finish 4th place out of the 6 team meet. There is still much work to do, and we will continue to work on get the girls to the top of their performance.
The next meet is on Tuesday at Spring Lake Park High School is going to be a JV only meet. Most of our athletes will be participating in this meet, but our top Varsity girls will be staying behind to do workouts. Thursday will be a 9/10th grade meet at Centennial, so all of our athletes 10th grade and younger, and possibly a few older, will be competing.
If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Maverick Invite

Below are directions to the meet for Saturday's Maverick Invite at Minnesota State Mankato. The meet will be starting at 11:00 (different than what is on the schedule), thus we will be leaving school at 7:45.  The list of who is to be competing on Saturday for us was posted at practice today, but we are limited on how many we can bring, plus with Prom on Friday night, we are going to be short on a few spots as well.
There does not appear to be any fees to enter. If you are wanting more detail on the meet itself, you can go to the following web page: Maverick Invite, then click on HS Meet Info

Here are the directions to MSU-Mankato:
MSU-Mankato: Mankato, 56001. Go East on Hwy 10 to Hwy 610.  Follow Hwy 610 West to Hwy 169 South.  Continue on Hwy 169 South to Belgrade Ave in North Mankato and exit towards downtown Mankato. Take a right onto Board St, then a left onto Warren St/Val Imm Dr. Take a right onto Ellis Ave.  The track will be on the south end of campus, near Blakeslee Stadium. (More info on where to park when we are closer to the meet)

Also, there will be a few other events happening on campus, including a spring football game, which is near the track.  All of the parking lots are available, but Lots 1 and 2 will be the closest to the track.

If there are any other questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Anoka Dual

Our teams individual results are now posted on the side of the blog page.  I am still missing most of the Pole Vault results, but once I get those, I will update that page.

There were individual or team overall results last night.  But, despite the wind, there were many improvements and we are starting to fill in some of the areas that we are not as strong.  We still have some areas to work on, and we are far from where we want to end up.  But, we'll keep working and doing what we can and when we get closer to the bigger meets, we will hopefully be in a position to really see what we are capable of doing.

Next up is the Maverick Invite at Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday.  This is a Varsity only meet, so not everyone will be competing.  Also, with Prom on Friday, we will be missing some of our Varsity athletes, so there will be a few JV athletes competing as well. We will be letting the Girls know at the beginning of the practice on Thursday, as we are still working on piecing everything together.

There is practice today, Wednesday, at the normal time, 3:00, since or coaching staff is still working and the Middle School athletes are still in school.

Any questions, let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Centennial Tri Results

Sorry I was unable to get these posted sooner, I was waiting on some of the results for the field events.  But, our individual results are now posted on the right side of the blog page.  I am still working on getting the overall meet results posted as well, but I am having issues remembering how to do that.  So, I'll keep working on it and get them posted as soon as I can.

As an overall, we did show many signs of improvement from our first meet, with times, heights and distances getting better.  We still have some holes to figure out, and we need to remember that we are aiming for the end of the season by taking it one day at a time and focusing on the next meet, not just the end of the season.

Next up will be a Dual meet vs. Anoka, at Anoka, on Tuesday the 18th.  From that meet, as well as the stats from the first two meets, we will decide who will be competing in the Mankato State Invite on April 22nd.  We will have to have those entries in next Wednesday, so everyone will know well before we get to that meet.

If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Centennial Tri Today

Well, despite the snow on the ground this morning, the meet at Centennial is still on for today. The meet will be starting at 3:45, with their track behind the high school. (Directions below, as well as a message about parking and getting through the school area today). We will be using the normal order of events for this meet, and with three teams, I would expect to be back to CRHS by 7:30.
If there are any changes to the meet because of the snow, I will let you know as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Denny

Centennial: 4707 North Road, Circle Pines, 55014.  Go East on Hwy 10, then merge onto Interstate 35W North.  Go north on 35W to the Lexington Ave exit and take a right.  Take a left on North Road (101st Ave NE).  School will be on left about a mile after Lexington

Message from Centennial:
Our school gets out at 2:50.  Busses will be able to drop athletes off either by 2:45or after 3:10 behind the school off of 103rd.  We have a new parking lot back there which is right next to the track. It is a little crazy on 103rd during this 25 minute time frame.  If you happen to arrive during the 25 minute window, I would suggest that you enter the school off of Lever street.  There is a new driveway between the two playgrounds that will take you to the back of the school to unload. Other interesting tidbits, we will also be hosting the Arrive Alive presentation on that same day so it may be slightly interesting in the beginning. I’m hoping the crash site will be cleared by 3:15

Coon Rapids Dual vs. Centennial

We were able to have a pleasant evening and got our first meet of the season in.  Our individual team results are posted on the right side of the blog under Team Results.  I will have the overall meet results posted some time on Thursday.
But some positive results, with a few surprises, but it is our first meet, and we know that we have a lot of work to do.  Plus, once we get some warmer weather, we know that times will start to drop, and with some more practice, all of our performances in all events, will improve.
It's a good start, but still lots of work to do and we won't stop trying to improve until we get the girls to reach their goals.
If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

The Week Ahead

Now that we are getting to start of the meets, there will be more information posted on this blog, with the hope to have accurate stats for each athlete for each of the meets that they participate in, as well as team scores, any records or major accomplishments earned, and other information that is important to us throughout the rest of the season.

With that, first up is our first meet of the year, which will be on Wednesday, April 5th, at Cardinal Stadium across the street from CRHS.  The meet will be a Dual against Centennial High School, and will start at 3:45.  There is no charge to enter, but please remember that parking can sometimes be tight on that side of Northdale, so if you park on the school side of Northdale, be careful crossing over.

For those that are not sure of the schedule or who have not been to a meet, please look off to the right side of our blog page and look under "Normal Schedule of Events" to see where each event will be held.  With this meet, since we are not able to predict how many athletes are in each event, we cannot determine what time each event will be starting.  One thing to note though, is that the Pole Vault event will be held indoors in the High School Fieldhouse.

If there are any parents, or former athletes, that would like to help at the meet, please let me know.  We will more than likely need a few extra hands to help keep things running smoothly.  One spot I know we will need someone is in the press box helping compile the meet results.  If you are interested, please let me know.

Lastly, we still have the 3+ weeks left on our fundraiser, so please continue to help spread the word and share the link to as many people as you can.  The funds we raise will help us maintain a high quality for our program. Snap Fundraiser

If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Iron: Low Ferritin Levels?

Good Morning,
I am wanting to continue to work on ways that we can help our runners, not only on the track, but with their health.  I have started a section off to the right that is going to be for health and nutrition, and I am going to add to that today.
Below are some links to information about Iron and if runners/athletes have Low Ferritin Levels and if they are dealing with anemia. (They will also always be linked on the right side of this page)  This is something that we should always be aware of, but we are becoming more aware of, so we want to try and make everyone aware of this so you can be seeing what the signs are.  It is something that more of us should be getting checked with our doctors, but if you have questions about it, please let us know so we can help you before you bring your runner in.  It is possible that your doctor may not be aware of some of the testing that can and should be done.  Also, this is an issue that can affect both males and females.
Thanks to the Edina Girls Cross Country team and coach for allowing us to use some of the articles they have posted on their website.  They have been one of the better programs not only in the State but the Nation the past couple of years, so I would like to think that they are staying on top of this.
Thanks,
Denny

Monday Practice

Due to scheduling with the Fieldhouse, we will be meeting at 2:40 in the mezzanine for practice.  Please make sure you are signed up.  For those that are in middle school, we will make sure we are getting the workouts in for you as well.  We only have the Fieldhouse until 4:00, so we are needing to get going right away this week.  Once the weather is nicer, we will be starting at our normal time of 3:00.
Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Shin Splints

Some things to try even if you don't have shin splints, but you should do if you are starting feel pain in your shins. But, please be careful with the tip 2 that is suggested, adding arch support. Also, look at your shoes and make sure they are in good shape. If you need new shoes, I will post your best options for getting the correct shoes for you, within the area.
Any questions, let me know,
