Week of April 12

A lot of information below to discuss as we start the 3rd week of the season.

To start with, here are the practice start times as we move forward unless otherwise noted by an event coach:
Throwers: 2:45 in the Weight Room
Distance: 3:15 in the field across from the High School, next to the Track
Sprints/Hurdles/Jumping events: 3:45 on the track near the High Jump area
High Jump: 4:30, at the High Jump area
Pole Vault: 3:00 near the pole vault area

Next, our first meet will be on Tuesday at our track, starting at 3:00 against Rogers.  This will be slightly different than the usual meet, with no relays for this week and the 3200m run being the first event at 3:00.  Also, spectators are allowed, but must wear masks, must stay out of the team camps, cannot be on the infield or on the track, and if in the field event areas must stay in the designated areas. We have discussed all of this with the athletes, and will continue to mention it, but we are also wanting them to arrive roughly 45 mins before their first event starts and then have them leave shortly after their event(s) are completed. This is unlike in the past where we would like for everyone to stay until the end to support.  At the bottom is the meet schedule for this week with a rough estimate on starting times for each event. These are guesses due to the fact we are not sure how long each event will take due to numbers and reduced lanes, also it is the first meet in two years, so their will be a little rust on everyone's part.

Athletes will be choosing their events for the first meet and will sign up on Monday at practice and for those that are in a laned event, they will also pick their lane and heat.

Lastly, below is information from our Activities Director that all spectators need to know.  To go with that and to help, they would like for you to fill out form linked below before you go to a meet to help with who may be at meets.

"A couple of quick items that we would like to make sure you pass along to your parents as soon as possible regarding spectators and guidelines this spring.

At home events (and most conference events), we will be posting large signs with QR codes throughout the venues. The QR code is linked to a form that we are asking all spectators to complete when they come to an event. Some schools may have slightly different systems. We'll get you that information before you travel there.

Please fill out the Spectator Contact Info form to help with this process before the first meet on Tuesday."

Track Events: Girls will run first, Boys will be second
3:00 - 3200m Run
3:20 - 100m/110m High Hurdles
3:30 - 100m Dash
3:50 - 1600m Run
4:10 - 400m Dash
4:25 - 300 Intermediate Hurdles
4:40 - 800m Run
4:55 - 200m Dash

Field Events 3:00:
Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault, High Jump

* Athletes can be in up to a total of 4 events, but no more than 3 in field or track, ie: 3 track and 1 field; 3 field and 1 track; 2 track and 2 field.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks and see you Tuesday!

Week of April 5 - Weather Update

Below is the schedule for practices for the second week of the season. Even with their being no school on Monday, practices are still being held at their regular times unless an individual coach told their athletes a different time.  Note: The weather in the middle of the week is looking a bit wet.  If it is a heavier rain on any of the days at the start times for the Distance or the Sprinters, we will meet in the high school in the Mezzanine, which is the upstairs of the Field House.  Depending on what the weather looks like the rest of practice and what is scheduled for a workout, we may stay inside or still go outside.

Practice start times for Week 2:
Throwers: 2:45 in the Weight Room
Distance: 3:15 in the field across from the High School, next to the Track
Sprints/Hurdles/Jumping events: 3:45 on the track near the High Jump area
High Jump: 4:30, at the High Jump area
Pole Vault: 7:30pm in the Field House, enter through Door 1

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Updated MSHSL Mask Guidelines

Below is an updated list of guidelines from the Minnesota State High School League in regards to masks for practices and meets.  One other quick item, pole vault will practice tonight, Thursday, at 7:30pm and will not have practice on Friday.
Thanks
Denny

Track and Field
• Masks/face coverings must be worn at all times by all student-athletes and coaches when indoors.
• When outdoors and practicing individually, student-athletes may practice without a mask/face covering while taking part in individual training and can maintain 6 feet of distance from others.
o In events such hurdles, pole vault, high jump, and throwing events, where there is a higher risk of danger when competing with a mask/face covering, it is recommended that masks/face coverings not be worn.
• During outdoor competition, student-athletes do not need to wear masks/face coverings when they can maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others at all times.

First Day of Practice

Tomorrow, Monday, March 29th, is the first day of the 2021 Girls Track and Field season.  Practice will be at 3:00pm, meet near the High Jump area of the Track. MASKS are required! Please be a few minutes early, make sure you are completely signed up (please check earlier posts on how to register), and come prepared to workout, running shoes, workout clothing. We will discuss many things, including the Covid guidelines, but we will be getting workouts in within each pod/group.  We will also let everyone know what times practices for each pod/group will begin after day 1 for the 1st week, which is also posted below (these will change throughout the season for some groups).  We are needing to do this to help pods/groups stay apart as well as make sure there are not too many pods/groups on the track at one time.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

1 Week Until Track Starts

We are 1 week away from the start of the 2021 Girls Track and Field season.  Practices will begin on Monday, March 29th, meeting at the track at 3:00pm.  We are finalizing the season schedule for meets, but I have posted what it currently looks like on the right side of the blog.  Please note, however, that this may change often, especially the times and the teams competing against.  This will be a different season then what we have had in the past with the new guidelines and restrictions (which there is a link from the MSHSL below), thus there will be many changes, not only for meets, but for practices as well.  These guidelines from the State will change throughout the season.  If there are any major changes we will let everyone know.

As we finalize all of the details we will post those as well, but the biggest things that we will want from our athletes this year is to abide by the guidelines to the best of their abilities (especially wearing masks at practice unless they are running and staying more separated and not in big groups), but also to stay positive and do the best that they can.  It will be different, but it is what we have, and as of right now we appear to be ready for a full season, which is better than not having a season this year. We will do what we can, but staying positive and working hard are the two things the athletes will have control over, so those will be our team focus this year.

Here is a link to the guidelines.  We will also be putting our own policies out on the blog as well once we have the final guidelines from the State before the start of the season (this will also change throughout the season): https://www.mshsl.org/sites/default/files/2021-03/mshsl-track-and-field-guidance-and-information-1.pdf

Please remember to go through the registration process soon (see the earlier post on registration).

Thanks and see everyone soon!
