Week Recap, Week Ahead

All of our results from last weeks 3 meets are now posted on the right side of the blog. Tuesday's meet vs. Cambridge is the Overall Results with Wednesday and Friday's results just our own.  I am trying to find a way to put up the Meet Results from the Centennial 9/10, but what they sent us included all of the field event sheets, plus the Boys results, so it is a lot of pages.  As with the Duluth East Invite Meet Results, you can find them here: https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/meet/469409/results  I have not seen Team Scores yet, but one I have those, I will make sure they are posted as well.

This was possibly the busiest week of the season and things got a bit extended on Friday night with the meet taking much longer than expected.  It was something that we did not feel was going to take as long as it did, but sometimes, especially earlier in the season, things take longer.  But the Girls held their own this whole week, while we continue to develop them, teach them how to do their events, and even teach them new events as we try to piece together the best team we can with the Girls that are on the team.  Some of it is also more focused on training and getting them more ready for the end of the season versus being at their best now.

Tuesday, vs Cambridge, was a solid way to get the week started.  We are now in a Section with Cambridge, so it was a positive to see them before we get to the Section Meet. The Girls got to have a better feel for where they are with Cambridge, and what individuals are strong for them.  They did beat us in the overall results, but we improved and a few girls stepped up into new events, which will help them and us for the rest of the season.

Wednesday, the Centennial 9/10 meet was a good opportunity for the JV Girls to compete against some good teams, but not against their top athletes.  The Girls finished 4th out of 5 teams with the Distance group and Pole Vaulters gaining the majority of our points.

Friday, the Hamline Elite meet and the Duluth East Invite were the big focus on the week and one that we competed at our best.  With the Hamline Elite meet, Kennedy Martinson was our lone representative, but she did not disappoint, finishing 4th in the 100 Hurdles, tying her School Record, 3rd in the 300 Hurdles, and 5th in Pole Vault, tying the School Record set by Mollie Gillberg 11 years ago!! It was a great representation of our program and is a huge step for Kennedy, as she now knows where she stands with the rest of the best in the State in those 3 events!!

With the Duluth East Invite, much like Cambridge, Duluth East is now in our Section and this was the only opportunity we could go against them.  Most of the teams there we have not competed against nor will we the rest of the season, but was good for the Girls to compete against other teams and not just the same ones from our Conference.  As mentioned, there have not been any team results yet, but we did compete well, including many top 3 performances, led by Mikayla de Souza in the 100 and Grace Kehr in the Pole Vault (3 inches from the school record herself!) both winning; 2nd place finishes to the 4x100 and 4x200 teams and 3rd place to Persia Glenn in the Shot Put.  Temps and winds were a little harsh, so some times were down, but the Girls fought through them and had a positive experience, despite how long it took.

Next up, in a bit more tame week with weather that is a little nicer, is the Blaine Invite on Tuesday, with Field events starting at 3:30 and running events at 3:45.  On Thursday is a JV meet at Coon Rapids against Blaine and Andover starting at 3:45.

Thanks to all of the parents/fans that came out to support us this past week, especially those that made the trek up to Duluth!  It is always a big positive, even when the Girls sometimes don't seem to want you there, it does help them.  Also, a big Thank You to Aimee Bone and Gretchen Del Fratte on Friday for picking up the dinner for the Girls!!

Thanks,
Denny
