End of Season

As we close out the 2018 Track and Field Season with Brielle finishing with a season best in the 100m at the State Track and Field Meet on Friday, we now look to bringing it all to a close on Monday evening at our Banquet.  Please remember that we will be at the High School Cafeteria at 6:00.  I am putting all of the basic info below to help.  If there is anyone that still has their uniforms, please remember to bring those as well.

But, as we move forward and look to the future, each of those that plan to come back next year should look at how they did this year and what they are thinking of as their goals for the next track and field season and how they want to get there.  We have a lot of youth and potential, so we as coaches will be doing what we can to help them when we get to the season next year, but the question always becomes what can the athletes do to help themselves before the season starts.  The biggest thing with this is to be active, whether that is in another sport or being apart of the after school strength and conditioning program at the high school.  Don't over do it, but by keeping active, especially at an age of much growth and development, will help start the season stronger, and thus give themselves a better opportunity to finish better than this year.

If there are any questions to help with this, please let me know.

Thanks for all of the support this year and we hope to see you tomorrow evening at the banquet!
Denny

Section Results

Congratulations to Brielle as she qualified for the State Meet, finishing 2nd place in the 100m dash! This is her second year of qualifying and will compete next Friday at Hamline in the prelims with a chance to be in the finals next Saturday.
Congratulations to all of the girls that competed this week. We finished in solid eith place of 16 teams, but it was a much better all around meet than we had the week before. We had many season bests at the Section Meet and many girls make it onto the podium for their events.  All four of relays had season best times as well, making for many positives as we build for next year.
Brielle also was a podium finisher in the 200m, finishing fourth, but also joining her for their events were: Camika finishing 3rd in Pole Vault, with Hannah in fifth; all three of our Shot Putters made the finals and were on the podium, led by Ellie in fifth, Rachel in seventh, and Dola in 9th; Grace was a double podium finisher as well, finishing fifth in the 300 Hurdles and seventh in the 100 Hurdles; the 4x800 relay team of Alaina, Abby, Olivia, and Sarah gained a spot on the podium with a fifth place finish as well.
Results can be found by clicking on Wayzata Results above. I'll have our individual results up a little later.
Also, a reminder that uniform turn in is on Monday after school, as well as team voting.
Great work to all of the girls!

Weather Today

With the weather that we are predicted to have today, there are some items to be touched on for the meet.

First, the Boys Pole Vault and the Girls High Jump will be inside, and located downstairs of the Walker Field House, which is south of the track.

Second, if it is just raining, all events will continue as scheduled.  However, if there is lightning or dangerous weather, we will be delayed until the weather allows us to go back out, with 30 minutes after the last sight of lightning.  It is possible that we will be there much later then the schedule or, it is even possible that we would be delayed until Thursday or major changes to the schedule on Friday.  The first goal will be to get everything in today, with drastic changes as a last resort.

As soon as there is any new information that comes out, I will get the info onto the blog.

Thanks
Denny

JV Conference and Conference Meet

Our individual results, as well as a link to the overall results, are now posted on the right side of the blog for yesterday's JV Conference Meet. Even though we finished in 5th of the 6 teams, we had many improvements and there were some solid placings for the girls.  There is a lot of room for growth, but the development potential is looking positive and the girls really seem to have a desire to improve.  There are some areas we need to get more numbers and we also need to work on our depth in some of the events, which will be a focus of ours as a coaching staff as we finish out this season and start to build for next year.  We have already been working with some girls and putting them into new events to help in this area.  But, it was a good way to end for many of our athletes as we now put our focus on getting ready for the big meets.  Also, even though many of the girls will not be competing the rest of the season, we would still like to have them at practices so they can continue to grow and develop.

As for the first of the big meets, we will be letting the girls know who will be competing in next Tuesday and Thursday's NWSC Conference Meet.  This year the meet is at Maple Grove High School.  I will send out more info about the meet in a couple of days.

Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Armstrong Tri Results

Our results for yesterday's Armstrong Tri with Blaine are now posted on the right side of the blog.  There were no overall meet results.

Positive steps were taken and improvement was shown in many different areas, despite the warmer temps.  Some final decisions for the Conference Meet were made while others became more complicated and challenging for us as coaches, which is a good thing that happens when the girls challenge themselves and each other, and go after an opportunity that lies in front of them.  But there were many good performances and if the girls continue to work on their events and do what they can at the Conference Meet, they will give themselves a chance to do well.

Next up is the JV Conference Meet on Thursday at Blaine.  This meet was originally scheduled at Elk River, but because of the issues with their track it was moved to Blaine.  The meet will start at 3:45 and will be a full schedule of events with 6 teams participating.  After this meet, we as coaches will finalize who will be competing in next weeks Conference Meet.  One thing to note, if someone does not make the Conference roster, it does not mean they are done.  We usually do a bit of a different roster for the Section Meet. So, we have told the JV girls that if they are able to, we would like for them to keep practicing, one to improve, but two to possibly get a spot at Sections.

If there are any questions, let me know,
Thanks
Denny

There will not be any meet results, but we will of course have our results that we will post here.

Here are the directions:

True Team Results

Results for our team are now posted on the right side of the blog, as well as the first edition of the 2018 Top Performances list.  Here is a link to the overall results.  Sorry for the delay, but there were so issues with one race and they should figured now: Section 4AAA True Team Results
On an overall, there were some positives and some areas that we struggled.  We finished in 8th out of the 9 teams and I felt we could have been in the middle of the pack.  We put together a different line up than at Blaine a week ago, to get more athletes in and those that were doing their first Varsity meets held their own.  We know, though, that we have a lot of work to do to be one of the top teams and we are hoping that the experience that our girls are getting now can translate into improvements as their careers continue.
Next up is the JV True Team at Andover tomorrow, Thursday.  Field Events will start at 3:30, Running Events at 3:45, but there will be no 4x800 or 3200 at this time.
Thanks to those that came and supported the girls last night, and if there are any questions, please let me know,
Denny

Today and the Weather

Just wanted to give you all a heads with the possible weather for today and the meet.  As of right now there is a good possibility of rain and maybe even some storms.  If it is just raining, the meet will go on, unless it is a heavy down pour and it is hard to complete events safely.  If there is any lightening, there will be a delay of 30 minutes from the last strike of lightening, which could extend if there is more. This is a meet that will need to be completed, so we will stay as long as the weather allows us, but if the meet is not completed today, we will finish it in the next day or two, site to be determined.

We always hope for the best and try not to think about what could happen, but just want to be prepared just in case.  With the chance of rain, the girls will be wearing black uniform tops. With our regular uniforms being white, we would rather not make them difficult to clean with little black spots from the track or mud from the fields. It is something we like to also do from time to time.

If there are any questions let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Week Ahead

We are starting the part of our season where we are getting into the bigger meets for Varsity, which means we have to start picking those that will be on Varsity and who will be JV for each meet, which can still change from week to week.  The other thing that will happen, especially in the running events, is some will be asked to do events that they usually might not do to fill a whole in our line up.
But, here is what is happening this week:

Tuesday: Varsity True Team Section Meet.  This was originally scheduled for Elk River, but was moved to Zimmerman due to the track conditions at Elk River.  I will send out meet info and directions on Monday, but here is the address for the Zimmerman High School: 25900 4th St W, Zimmerman, 55398.  Also, the High Jump and the Pole Vault girls will be competing earlier in the day, starting at 12:00.  We as coaches will be bringing them to the meet early.
Those not competing will still have practice, plus there is a middle school meet at CRHS that day as well, and some of the JV athletes will be helping.

Wednesday: Team Pictures at the beginning of practice.  We will have the girls go out after school to get individual pics done while we wait for the middle school athletes.  I will have order forms for all of the girls at practice on Monday.

Thursday: JV True Team Meet: This will be for those that do not compete on Tuesday.  There usually is no scoring for this meet, but we will be looking to see how the girls perform.  Varsity athletes will have practice after school as usual.

If there are any questions, please let me know.  I will have more information about Tuesday's meet tomorrow.  Also, below is the list of girls that are competing on Tuesday's meet,
Thanks

Coon Rapids JV Results

The results for our athletes are posted on the right of the blog.  There were no overall results, since we as coaches were wanting the meet to run more efficiently and figuring out results takes much more time.

But, we had some solid performances yesterday and there was much improvement.  It was nice to have a warm meet with no wind for many of these girls.  Knowing that it wasn't long ago we were competing with mounds of snow and temps in the 30's, it is a relief knowing that the girls can just go out and perform without thinking about that end of the temps!

Next up will be the True Team Section Meet on Tuesday.  This meet was originally scheduled at Elk River, but due to issues with their track, it was moved to Zimmerman High School.  We as coaches are hoping to let everyone know today who is going and what they will be competing in.

If there are any questions, please let me know.  Thanks to all of those that came out and supported the athletes last night!!

Thanks
Denny

Blaine Invite Results

Sorry for the delay on our results and where you can find the meet results.

But, our individual results are now posted on the right side of the blog as well as a link to the overall meet results as well.

The Girls had a solid meet though, on a beautiful night.  There were a lot of season personal bests, and a few overall personal bests as the Girls were able to finish in 3rd out of 7 teams.  We had 10 individuals or relay teams that finished in the top 3, with Brielle (100m), Camika (Pole Vault), and Dola (Shot Put) all winning their events!  We are really in a very similar position as a team that we were a year ago, yet we have been outside collectively about a month less, which shows the promise and the hard work that the Girls have been putting in!

Next up will be a JV Meet at Coon Rapids tomorrow, Thursday.  Meet will start at 3:45 and will feature Blaine and Centennial, while running the normal order of events.  After this meet, we will be able to set our team up for the True Team Section meet that will be next Tuesday in Zimmerman.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Blaine Invite

Here is a link to the Start List for tomorrow's Blaine Invite: Blaine Start List. This is an easy way to know what heat and lane your runner(s) is, or what flight they are for their field event.

One other thing of note, they changed the start time of the meet to 3:30 for field events and 3:45 for the running events, with the normal order of events set for this meet.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Centennial 9/10 Results

Results for the Centennial 9/10 are now posted on the right side of the blog.  I also included a link to the overall meet results as well.

It was a positive day for us though.  Many of the girls that competed were able to improve on their times, heights, and distances from the meets on Tuesday.  Not always easy to do when there is only one day of practice, but it shows how hard the girls working to be able to improve.  We know that we still have a lot of work to do and in order for us to move up we have to do a little more than others.  It won't be easy, but it will be fun to see how the girls work in practice and the improvements that lie ahead from that work.

Tonight, Brielle will be running in the Hamline Elite Meet in the 100m.  Her prelim race is at 5:37, and if she qualifies for the finals, then she will be running again around 6:30.  You will be able to follow along at Wayzata Results, which you can click on at the top of the blog.

Next week will be the Blaine Invite on Tuesday, a Varsity Meet, which means we will be limited, and then a JV meet at Coon Rapids on Thursday.  The girls will find out on Monday if they will be competing on Tuesday and which events.  If they do not compete on Tuesday, they will be for sure on Thursday then.  We will send out more information on Sunday or Monday.

If there are any questions, let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Tuesday Results

Sorry it took so long to get all of the individual results out, but it was a late night for me and then had to wait on a few results this morning.

But, on the right side of the blog, you will find the individual results for yesterday's Roseville Invite and the Centennial Tri.  One thing to note about the results in regards to the timed events.  The Roseville Invite was timed electronically (accu-track) and the Centennial Tri was hand timed.  So, some times, especially in the short sprints, are actually not 100% accurate for those that ran at Centennial, but in most cases, if you add .24 onto those times, you will be closer to what the actual time would be.  Just one of those little things that happen with track meets.

As for how we did, things were definitely positive in the fact that we were able to get out and compete again.  There were some real solid performances and improvements in both meets, and the girls are starting to fill into some of the spots/events that were are lacking.  Some of those spots will take some time to get to where we would like, but it is nice to see them step up and help out.

I will get links up to the overall results to both meets as well.  At Roseville we were 4th of 8 teams and 3rd of 3 at Centennial. (The overall meet results for both meets can be found by clicking on the individual meet results for us, and at the top of those pages will be a link to the overall results)

Thursday's Centennial 9/10 Meet will start at 3:45 and will go with the normal order of events.  We will bring more than the 9th and 10th graders.  We will bring the middle school athletes and possibly some older girls to fill events or get them more competition since we have missed a few meets.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Week of April 23rd

Well, we are finally getting a chance to get some meets in this week, and it will be a busy week.
We will have practice on Monday at 3:00.  Even though the students don't have school, most of our coaches are still working, so practice will be at normal time.
Tuesday is the Roseville Invite for the Varsity (Start time of 3:30), with the rest of the team going to Centennial (Start time of 3:45).  The girls will find out at Monday's practice which meet they will be in and if they are at Roseville, which event(s) they will be in.
Thursday is the Centennial 9/10 Meet.  We will be taking the 10th grade and younger athletes, 7th and 8th grade included, but we may take some Juniors and Seniors as well if we feel we need to get them in since we have been short on races.  Those that do not go to this meet will still have practice as usual.
Friday's Hamline Elite Meet is one in which we will submit times, heights, or distances, as will any other team in the state, and they will take the top so many (8 for most running events, but it vary's between each event).  We will not find out who will qualify until some time on Wednesday.
Also, just to make sure everyone is clear, the Girl's team will NOT be going to the St Thomas Meet on Friday.  That is a Boy's only meet.
I will put the information for all of the meets out the day before so you are prepared.
If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Wednesday Shovel Party

Practice Wednesday is going to be spent shoveling off our track and some of the field areas. We going to be doing this with the boys team, so we are hoping this could be a job that takes around an hour and a half. We will need the girls to bring a few shovels so we can do this job more efficiently since we don't have that many at the school, so any we can get will be great.
The reason behind this is so we can see if we can get some sort of meet in by Friday. So, with this, we are needing the help of all of the girls.
Any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Denny

Tuesday Meet Cancelled

The meet on Tuesday at Anoka has been cancelled due to the snow.  As of right now we don't have anything to replace it, but I am looking and even going to see if we can put something together for the end of the week.
Any other changes, I'll let you know,
Thanks

The Indoor Meet at St John's University tomorrow, Saturday, has been cancelled.  Not sure if we will try or be able to make up the meet.

Centennial Results

The results from today's time trial at Centennial are now posted on the right side of the blog.  Once again, there were no team results kept, so cannot say where we would have placed in the meet.

But, it was good, and fun, to get out and to get a few races in for the girls and to get them seeing where they are at with their goals and what they need to work on, as well as what we need to work on as coaches.  There were some very solid performances and we got to see what the girls were made of with the below average meet weather.  It gives us as coaches a lot of positives to see the girls put so much in when the weather is not perfect, and that is something that we can build off of.

Thanks to all of the parents and other fans that came out into the cold as well to support the girls!

Centennial Tuesday Meet

So, we are going to have a "sort of" meet on Tuesday at Centennial.  There will be no Field events due to the current conditions, so those athletes that only do a field event will stay behind at school for practice.  Also, due to the predicted temps, they have taken out a couple of events to help make the meet go a little quicker.  The schedule that they will be using is listed below, but the three events that they took out are the 4x100m relay, the 300IM Hurdles, and the 3200m, one from each of the different categories of running events (Sprints, Hurdles, Distance).
Lastly, because a lot of events will be missing, there will not be any official meet results.  We will get times for all of our athletes, but there will be no overall winners.
Any questions, please let me know, and dress warm if you are coming to watch tomorrow!
Denny

Start of the races is at 3:45
4x800m
100/110 High Hurdles
100m
4x200m
1600m
400m
800m
200m
4x400m

Centennial: 4707 North Road, Circle Pines, 55014.  Go East on Hwy 10, then merge onto Interstate 35W North.  Go north on 35W to the Lexington Ave exit and take a right.  Take a left on North Road (101st Ave NE).  School will be on left about a mile after Lexington.

Monday: Uniform handout after school

Sartell Invite Change

With the weather we have had this past week or so, we are going to be running through some schedule changes for our meets.  As of right now, Centennial is holding onto hope that they will be able to host a meet on Tuesday next week, 4/10.  They shoveled off their track the past couple of days, so they are hoping to not get much snow this weekend.  As soon as there is any notification of a change, I will let you know.

There is, however, been a change for next Friday's meet at Sartell, 4/13.  They have over a foot of snow on their track still, so they have changed the meet to Saturday, 4/14, and have moved it to St John's University where we will be using their indoor track.  The meet time is from 10:00 - 2:00, with the buses leaving at 8:00am from the high school.  We know that Prom is on Saturday, and have been notifying the girls of this fact.  I will have a team list at practice today to check on who will be at Prom and cannot go, or would not be able to go for other reasons, thus making sure we are able to fill the spots we will have for the meet.  I will be sending out more information once we are notified and a schedule of events once they are finalized.

Thanks,
Denny

Week Ahead

Here are just a couple of things for this week.  We are still a little over a week until our first outdoor meet, so we will be still working on getting the girls ready.
Monday is the last day for team apparel.  We sent these forms out to the girls, but here is a link if you did not see it.  Everything is ordered online: Team Apparel  None of this is mandatory, just some items offered if you or your athlete would like to purchase.  The team jackets will hopefully be in before or first meet.
Tuesday is ACT test day for some of the students at the High School, with the rest of the High School having the day off.  Even though the test will be done before noon, we are still having practice at 3:00 since we as coaches still have to work and the Middle School girls are still in school all day.
We are hoping to have either good weather or a good location to practice on Friday, for we are wanting to do our first Team Relay day, which is to be a fun practice for the girls focusing on team bonding.
Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Friday Practice

With there being no school on Friday, we have moved our practice time to 9:00am.  We know that there are going to be other obligations with it being Good Friday and a longer weekend, so if an athlete is not able to make it, then that is not a problem.
Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Stout Indoor Results

Here is a link to yesterday's Indoor meet at UW Stout: Results
It was an overall solid day. We were 5th out of 11 teams, and with limited time with practice so far, the girls held their own and were in good spirits the whole meet! We as coaches will look at what to focus on for practices the next couple of weeks before our next week to work on improvements and give the girls the opportunities to be better for their next competition.
I'll have our individual results up on the blog later today. Thanks to all the parents that made the trek yesterday to show support!
Thanks,
Denny

Parent Meeting

We are going to put together a Parent Meeting for this coming Thursday, March 22nd at 6:00pm in the High School Cafeteria (use Door 9, back of school).  We are hoping to keep the meeting short and sweet but need to go over a few items that will help you as a parent. If you were at the meeting at the end of February, then you do not need to attend this meeting.
If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Practice this Week

Now that we are back to school tomorrow, we can start to have practices after school.  Everyone will be meeting at 3:00 in the mezzanine on Monday, to allow the middle schoolers the opportunity to get to practice without missing much (they will be filled in with anything they do miss).
However, we will not have access to the Field House or the smaller gym until 6:45 due to scheduling with Baseball and Softball.  The sprinters and distance athletes will be practicing everyday this week at 3:00, but those that are in a field event will be at 6:45, unless otherwise stated by their event coach.  If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

5 Days Until the Start of the Season

We are down to 5 days until the start of the 2018 Track and Field season!  Please remember that we are starting practice at 9:00am on Monday.  We will meet in the Mezzanine (upstairs from the Field House) before we start, so please be there by 8:45.  Each athlete will need to discuss with their event coach as to how long their practices will be each day.  The intention at this time is to practice Monday thru Thursday next week as well.  If there are any changes, the event coaches will let their athletes know.

Also, make sure you are signed up before the beginning of practice.  Mrs. Cardinal is currently on vacation, so the only way that one can get signed up is online, through the schools web page under Activities.  Here is a link to the Registration page: Sign Up

If you have any questions, please let me know,
Thanks

Schedule Mistake

There is a mistake on the schedule that has been posted, but now is changed on the blog page.  There will not be a Parent Meeting on Wednesday March 7th.  This was the meeting that was last week, I just forgot to change it on the schedule.

Follow by Email

A new feature for the blog this year is the ability to be notified by email whenever something is posted.  All you need to do is look on the right side of the blog, above the Health and Nutrition pages, and enter your email.  I will not be notified or receive any of the email addresses when you enter, nor will be publicized anywhere.  One thing of note though, is that sometimes it does take a little bit of time to notify you of a new post, so still check the blog page from time to time to make sure you are staying up to date.
If there are any questions, please let me know.
Thanks
Denny
