SLP JV Results

Our individual results from today's JV meet at Spring Lake Park against Centennial and Rogers are now posted on the right side of the blog.  There will not be any overall results for this meet, so where we would have placed as a team and individual will not be known.

But, despite the cold, wet weather, there was improvements and the girls seemed to have fun.  The pole vault was cancelled due to the wet weather and the shot and discus were definitely influenced by the wetness, thus some areas we weren't able to really see improvements.  We are also down a few athletes for various reasons, so being able to compete where we are seeing improvements and in inclement weather, is good to see.  We are hoping everyone was able to get home and get into the dry warm clothes and put some warm food in themselves!!

Next up is a varsity meet on Thursday at Coon Rapids.  More details will come out tomorrow, but the meet will be a coed meet and start at 3:00, no 6:00 start this week.

Thanks to the parents that braved the weather today!!
Denny

JV Meet at Spring Lake Park

For the JV meet today, please remember that it was moved to Spring Lake Park and that it will be starting at 3:45.  Also note that it could be raining, and so long as it is just rain, the meet will go on.  However, if there is any lightening or they feel it is unsafe, they may call the meet off.

The normal order of events will be used today, and please look at the maps below to know where to go and enter.

If there are any questions, please let me know, and if there are any other changes for the meet, I will let you know,
Thanks
Denny

9/10 vs Blaine Results

Our individual results from today's 9/10 and under meet vs. Blaine are now posted on the right side of the blog.  Definite signs of improvement and getting more comfortable with racing, but also signs of being tired by many after competing on Tuesday as well.  There is still a lot of areas we will need to look at to fill and to improve on, but this is a very young team with not a lot of experience, so finding those spots and the depth to help grow the team may take some time, but we are heading in the right direction.

There will not be any overall results for this meet, however I did put a link to the Overall results from Tuesday's race at Centennial into our results.

Thanks,
Denny

Centennial Dual Results

Results from today's dual with Centennial are now posted on the right side of the blog.  I am still waiting on the overall results before I can post those.  But, it was a chilly afternoon, but we started to see improvements and the girls work to their best abilities, even those running in events they were not used to or having to run multiple events.  We are hoping for better weather soon so we can carry a more positive outlook on that aspect of our training and racing, but we will keep working hard and doing what we can to improve and be competitive.

Next up is the Coon Rapids 9/10 on Thursday at 3:15 vs Blaine.  All of those that are 10th grade and younger will be competing and we hope to get them into as many events as we are able to.

Thanks,
Denny

Week of April 19

Here is the info for the week ahead.  One major change is that we are now bringing everyone to the meet on Tuesday at Centennial.  As coaches we felt it would be a good chance to get some more races in, and being the meet on Tuesday is a full meet (see the Normal Order of Events posted on the right side of the blog) there will be more options for everyone to run, so we will divide our runners out more so those running on Thursday as well are not being overloaded with races.  Also, our meet on Thursday will start at 3:15 now.
Tuesday the bus will leave at 1:55, so everyone will be out of class at 1:35. Directions to the meet are on the right side of the blog, however, please use this map Centennial Parking as to where you should park.
Thursday everyone will get out of class at 2:00.
As for practices, the Throwers will still be starting at 2:45, the Pole Vault at 3:00 with the Long/Triple Jumpers starting at 3:00 on Wednesday, Distance at 3:15 and Sprinters at 3:45.  On Thursday, for all of those that will not be competing, they will start practice at 2:15 and once completed will help run the meet.
Any questions, please let me know,
Thanks,
Denny

Results

The Overall Meet Results are now posted on the right side of the blog.  Since it was only a dual and all of the results were used, I only put in a link to the Overall Meet Results.  Solid start for the Girls though.

It was a good day though. The sun shined at times, temps were a bit nicer, and we got the chance to have a meet, they first one since 2019. It’s been quite a trip, and it was a bit challenging today for some as they were getting used to racing again.  We have some work to do, but it was an overall positive day!!

Thanks to all of those that were able to make it out and watch the events!! Next up will be a meet at Centennial on Tuesday for the Seniors and Juniors and a sophomore and under meet at against Blaine on Thursday.

Lastly, there will be a meeting for all of the sprinters tomorrow, Friday, after school at 3:00 in the mezzanine. We will practice after the meeting as well.

Thanks
Denny

Week of April 12

A lot of information below to discuss as we start the 3rd week of the season.

To start with, here are the practice start times as we move forward unless otherwise noted by an event coach:
Throwers: 2:45 in the Weight Room
Distance: 3:15 in the field across from the High School, next to the Track
Sprints/Hurdles/Jumping events: 3:45 on the track near the High Jump area
High Jump: 4:30, at the High Jump area
Pole Vault: 3:00 near the pole vault area

Next, our first meet will be on Tuesday at our track, starting at 3:00 against Rogers.  This will be slightly different than the usual meet, with no relays for this week and the 3200m run being the first event at 3:00.  Also, spectators are allowed, but must wear masks, must stay out of the team camps, cannot be on the infield or on the track, and if in the field event areas must stay in the designated areas. We have discussed all of this with the athletes, and will continue to mention it, but we are also wanting them to arrive roughly 45 mins before their first event starts and then have them leave shortly after their event(s) are completed. This is unlike in the past where we would like for everyone to stay until the end to support.  At the bottom is the meet schedule for this week with a rough estimate on starting times for each event. These are guesses due to the fact we are not sure how long each event will take due to numbers and reduced lanes, also it is the first meet in two years, so their will be a little rust on everyone's part.

Athletes will be choosing their events for the first meet and will sign up on Monday at practice and for those that are in a laned event, they will also pick their lane and heat.

Lastly, below is information from our Activities Director that all spectators need to know.  To go with that and to help, they would like for you to fill out form linked below before you go to a meet to help with who may be at meets.

"A couple of quick items that we would like to make sure you pass along to your parents as soon as possible regarding spectators and guidelines this spring.

At home events (and most conference events), we will be posting large signs with QR codes throughout the venues. The QR code is linked to a form that we are asking all spectators to complete when they come to an event. Some schools may have slightly different systems. We'll get you that information before you travel there.

Please fill out the Spectator Contact Info form to help with this process before the first meet on Tuesday."

Track Events: Girls will run first, Boys will be second
3:00 - 3200m Run
3:20 - 100m/110m High Hurdles
3:30 - 100m Dash
3:50 - 1600m Run
4:10 - 400m Dash
4:25 - 300 Intermediate Hurdles
4:40 - 800m Run
4:55 - 200m Dash

Field Events 3:00:
Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault, High Jump

* Athletes can be in up to a total of 4 events, but no more than 3 in field or track, ie: 3 track and 1 field; 3 field and 1 track; 2 track and 2 field.

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks and see you Tuesday!
Denny

Week of April 5 - Weather Update

Below is the schedule for practices for the second week of the season. Even with their being no school on Monday, practices are still being held at their regular times unless an individual coach told their athletes a different time.  Note: The weather in the middle of the week is looking a bit wet.  If it is a heavier rain on any of the days at the start times for the Distance or the Sprinters, we will meet in the high school in the Mezzanine, which is the upstairs of the Field House.  Depending on what the weather looks like the rest of practice and what is scheduled for a workout, we may stay inside or still go outside.

Practice start times for Week 2:
Throwers: 2:45 in the Weight Room
Distance: 3:15 in the field across from the High School, next to the Track
Sprints/Hurdles/Jumping events: 3:45 on the track near the High Jump area
High Jump: 4:30, at the High Jump area
Pole Vault: 7:30pm in the Field House, enter through Door 1

If there are any questions, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

Updated MSHSL Mask Guidelines

Below is an updated list of guidelines from the Minnesota State High School League in regards to masks for practices and meets.  One other quick item, pole vault will practice tonight, Thursday, at 7:30pm and will not have practice on Friday.
Thanks
Denny

Track and Field
• Masks/face coverings must be worn at all times by all student-athletes and coaches when indoors.
• When outdoors and practicing individually, student-athletes may practice without a mask/face covering while taking part in individual training and can maintain 6 feet of distance from others.
o In events such hurdles, pole vault, high jump, and throwing events, where there is a higher risk of danger when competing with a mask/face covering, it is recommended that masks/face coverings not be worn.
• During outdoor competition, student-athletes do not need to wear masks/face coverings when they can maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others at all times.
